Day 5 of NaNo: 11,336 words, which is only 330 words away from Monday's goal, and I'm pretty sure I would have eclipsed that by now if I'd done more than two word wars tonight. Still, I'm going to a write-in tomorrow in addition to doing my usual nightly session, so hopefully I can get a good chunk more done.

The best part is, I am really enjoying this - a lot more than I would be if I'd been doing it alone. The AIM chat, and actually doing this with people, is a fantastic motivator and just so much fun. I love you guys - you know that. ♥ As always, the chat name is oshinano and you're all welcome to join and chat and word war with people!

In other news, I'm no longer allowed to watch Air Force games, because recently, every time I watch a game, they do poorly, and every time I leave and check the score later, they win. Case in point: today's game against Army. I watched the first half, and we were down 14-0 (though the touchback at the end of the second quarter helped); I walked away at halftime, and we wound up winning 24-14. I don't get to watch anymore. XD

Also, evidently my roomies and I are now honorary KSU fans. Kristin was going to a show tonight, so we went to a sports bar nearby to have dinner. Turned out it was College Football Night and the place was absolutely packed - they were saying at least an hour's wait for a table. We headed upstairs, found a table that was being cleared off, and asked if we could sit there. The waitress asked if we were with Kansas State, then let us sit at the table anyway because Megan's coat was purple and that was good enough. (Purple's a KSU color.) We sat, we had great food, we pretended to be excited about the game, we socialized with other fans (or at least I did and completely bullshitted my way through the whole thing)...and then Phil, the party organizer, came up.

"Hi! I haven't seen you guys at our watching party before. Are you all KSU fans?"

For those of you who don't speak College Sports Football Fan, allow me to translate: "Prove your loyalty or get out of our booth."

I don't remember the last time we all BSed so hard, but eventually we placated Phil and he sat back down. We left the bar not long after that - it was time for Kristin's show, and none of us wanted to stick around when the KSU fans were all scoping out our table. I'm not sure we can ever go back, but we did have a really good time.

Favorite lines of the night:

She stopped, suddenly meeting his eyes, her gaze determined and questioning. “Tell me, do you think I’d make a good queen?”

That stopped Terra dead. There was a very clear right answer here, but something told him the princess didn’t want that answer – not if he didn’t mean it, at least – and he honestly wasn’t sure he did. It left him caught between a rock and a very hard place. “Uh,” he tried, eloquent as ever.

“Be honest with me,” she added, seeing his dilemma. “You won’t get in trouble for it, I promise.”

He sighed. There was still that pressure to say the right thing – he had a feeling that wouldn’t go away, no matter how much she reassured him – but it had lessened somewhat, and he was pretty sure she’d be able to tell if he wasn’t being completely honest with her. He’d been told in no uncertain terms that he Could Not Lie, and he wasn’t about to test the theory now. “I don’t know,” he finally admitted. “I don’t think I know you well enough to know what kind of ruler you’d be.”

She looked away, frowning sadly, and for an instant he was afraid he’d said the wrong thing, honesty be damned. “I was afraid you’d say something like that,” she said quietly, and he could hear the disheartenment in her voice. “I’m not sure anyone knows me very well anymore, and I’m not sure I know anyone either. I just-” she shook her head, that oft-worn frustration returning. “I get the feeling that everyone’s lying to me, and I don’t know how to get them to tell me the truth.”

(Yeah, it's a long section, but I'm finally getting into something resembling character development and I am just pleased as punch about that. Here's hoping it actually works out.)
Five days in Colorado was exactly the vacation I needed. I just need to remember next time that I need to drink a lot more - because dehydration headaches suck - and I can't drink pretty much anything - which sucks when Mom's buying and asking if I want a margarita because they're really great here and here, try hers and see if I like it. Honestly, I know my mom is happy to have me around whenever I come home, and I think she likes having someone who'll go out for fruity drinks and conversation. She likes having mother-daughter time.

In all honesty, it was really nice to have someone else make the decisions and the schedule and just follow along - a break from being a responsible adult, as it were. I put a ton of pressure on myself with to-do lists and self-imposed deadlines and all of that, and it was nice to get to just put all that on hold for an extended weekend and hang out with my parents. My younger brother is at college, my older brother came by for an afternoon, and I didn't get to see my sister-in-law or niece, but there's a flipton of drama surrounding that that I'd rather not get into right now. |D Either which way, I did love seeing my family. The football game was fun to go to even if it ended horribly (which is what happens when all of your starting defensive line is sidelined with injuries - the BSU game at the end of this week is going to be painful), shopping with mom was actually a lot more fun than most of my recent shopping trips have been, Sequence is a fun game if a bit slow with only two players, the new house is beautiful, and...yeah. Hell yes Colorado. :Db I do regret getting the donut burger, though. Remind me to post pictures of that.

The only thing I'm worried about is Finn. Since my parents moved into the new house, he's gone pretty much crazy: he's ripped up his kennel when they put him in it when they leave (whereas Mac just curls up in his and naps until they get home), he whines like mad, he's losing weight - he's skinny even for a greyhound, which is worrying - and he just generally Does Not Look Good. Mom's bringing him in to the vet's and, if that doesn't work, possibly a dog whisperer, because he never used to do any of this stuff, and if we give him up or, God forbid, put him down - which is a very sad option if he continues on being this destructively miserable and we can't find the reason and calm him down - then Mac will go ballistic without him around. The dog situation at home is not good, but I'm really hoping it'll turn out for the better.

A little closer to the west coast, my bosses are out of the office all week (Hawaiian vacation, lucky them), so I'm on my own and keeping busy with whatever project updates come up. This Friday, I head to Disneyland for the Halloween party with [livejournal.com profile] amorsinseramada, [livejournal.com profile] lynxgriffin, and [livejournal.com profile] universejuice, and sticking around on Saturday as well. Costumes aren't quite finished yet, but those are priorities for the next few nights. It's just a bit of cutting and hemming (and praying shoes come in on time), so it shouldn't be too bad. I hope.

On the fandom works front, [livejournal.com profile] secondcityrpg is almost over and Rarity has been accepted at [livejournal.com profile] itsjustagamerpg - I just need to join the comms and get going. Tron fic is on hold until I get to rewatch Legacy - maybe sometime next week - and while I haven't done much for my NaNo outline, I have been kicking around ideas for it, so hopefully that'll start coming together soon. Again, next week's priority.

Who all's doing NaNo this year, by the way? I'd love to know - something tells me I'll need people to lean on come November. |D

Obligatory Super Bowl preamble: Pregame was okay, with the presentation about the Declaration of Independence being the best part; why Lea Michele performed, I'll never know; Christina, that was a terrible time to have a brain fart; DORITOS PROMOTE NECROMANCY and have creepy commercials; hell, almost all of the commercials this year were creepy or boring; the only good commercials were Volkswagon, Coke, Carmax, and that Lassie!truck spot; BEP have terrible stage presence and was unnecessarily political, I've seen better Tron cosplayers at cons, and that sound supervisor had a really bad night; neither team played very well, but the Packers played marginally better; overall, it was pretty bleh.

On the other hand, I really love my friends. Y'all are awesome. 8Db

/Super Bowl Preamble

In other news, HOLY HELL CONS.

SDCC passes get, thanks to Kroze. I need to start figuring out cosplay stuff for that.

I evidently have a pass for WonderCon, Ryune wants me to stay with her, and flights from LAX to San Francisco for that weekend are $88 each way on Southwest. I've all but decided to go.

And it only just hit me that Gallifrey is the weekend after next. What is this I don't even. I swear I haven't even been thinking about that. |D [livejournal.com profile] betwixt_worlds, if there's a day you're not busy, can I pop by sometime and grab cosplay things from you? [livejournal.com profile] estelofimladris, let me know what I can do to help with Pirate Party stuff and for sure if I should dress for it accordingly.

Usually I give myself more time to prepare than this. This totally took me by surprise this year. o_o
This is completely off topic for everything, but oh man I love this picture. The schadenfreude is amazing, and I cannot get over Terra's girly little ankles. XD

My life has just gone insane, man. I mean, dang.

...I was going to have a big long rundown of things, but that was before I got ridiculously distracted. |D So! List form!

- San Diego. Amazing. So beautiful, even in epic amounts of fog and mist.
- When we go back for Comic Con, we're eating at the Dublin House. Boxties and Irish nachos and chocolate cherry martinis, oh my.
- We're also going to Wet Willies. Alcoholic slushies. When they have flavors called Attitude Adjustment, Electric Shocker, and Call-A-Cab, you know it's a great place to be.
- Also, the Cadillac Cafe. Fifties-sixties-seventies restaurant where the waitresses put your hair up with straws. I seriously have pictures of us with straws in our hair - I think I wound up with twenty or so. That was amazing lulz.
- The game. I could cry. The Falcons usually stomp SDSU. Not this time. We had half our starting line, both offensive and defensive, out with injuries. One of our defensive linemen broke his leg during the game. Our QB might have ripped his knee again. We weren't compensating well for any of it. And to top all this off, the refs overturned a call on the field that cost us a two-point conversion. We lost the game by those two points. It was incredibly disheartening. :/
- But the rest of the weekend was fun. |Db
- JOB INTERVIEWS HOLY SHIT
- I got secondary interviews for each of the jobs I interviewed at today. I also somehow wound up with six more interviews on top of that. My life. What is it. I don't even.

...so yeah. Life. XD Disneyland Halloween tomorrow! This should be fun.

Also, I shall catch up on memes later, because man am I ever behind.
I. Today. Where to start.

I have two job interviews! Both are slated for Monday, both are for (I think) sales associate positions, one is in Culver City (half an hour away) and the other is in Carson (an hour away). I'm looking at one hell of a commute if I get either of these jobs, but they're interviews! Huzzah!

Of course, I still need to finish my stuff for Activision...going to get to that if I have any down time this weekend.

SPEAKING OF THIS WEEKEND. [livejournal.com profile] amorsinseramada and I are piling in a car, first to hit up a career fair at Pepperdine, then to head down to San Diego to watch the Air Force game with my parents, who got us tickets. I've only been to SD once and spent most of that time in the convention center, so it'll be nice to see the rest of the city, and to see my parents. Mom's been a bit calmer about this whole unemployment gig, and she's thrilled I have interviews. I have no idea how Dad's doing, but I'm bringing him a hat with a golf ball on it. Obviously this fixes everything.

So yes, I'll be away from the internet all this weekend, though I might hop on phone AIM every once in a while. I have dual interviews Monday. Tuesday is last minute costume prep (attaching a new hood to my Org coat, fixing a popped seam, adding a stick to my fake popsicle, and picking up gloves) and then it's off to Disneyland with [livejournal.com profile] lynxgriffin for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. I am so unbelievably stoked about this. XD

So yes, I'm not entirely certain what's going on with my life right now and I will be a bit scarce all weekend. I'll catch up on memes and tags (oh man so many tags) when I get back, I think.

BE AWESOME, PEOPLE. ♥
I remember telling people that I wasn't going to stick around longer than my supervisor, who's also been looking for jobs. I told people things would go poorly if I did.

Turns out she got hired yesterday. When I turned in my letter of resignation this morning, so did she. Funny how these things work out sometimes.

The fun part of this (and by fun I mean FFFFFFFFF) is going to be telling my parents. That should be interesting. For now, however, I'm working through today and hitting up Disneyland with [livejournal.com profile] lynxgriffin tomorrow, with [livejournal.com profile] jedizero meeting us for lunch and the latter half of the Falcons game. (Go Falcons! Beat CSU!)

In other news, I might've enabled a Critic just by existing. Also, the meme continues.

Meme + All 30 Days )

I am camping the forums waiting for a re-bag opportunity. Just. Waiting.
For anyone who doesn't follow my Twitter: the Air Force vs Navy game was today. We haven't beaten them in seven years. It's kind of a Huge Deal.

So I hauled my rear out of bed after a solid five hours of sleep, helped set up the tailgate, and got massively sunburned. It was worth it, though, to see Air Force absolutely hand Navy its collective rear in the most spectacular fashion possible. I'm not sure what the best moment of the game was: the 50-yard touchdown run by our QB, the game-ending interception by the same player who made 15 tackles and a sack, Navy missing a field goal by pinging it off one of the poles (schadenfreude what), or the punt that a freshman player blocked by making an unbelievable leap over the shoulder of a Navy blocker. The footage of that needs to be slowed down and have either Chariots of Fire or I Believe I Can Fly playing in the background, because it is just amazing.

So yes:

NAVY = SUNK

A WINNER IS AIR FORCE

A particular favorite from the afternoon is this video, played on the big screen on the scoreboard before game start:

Yeah, it's been a good day.

I am back in Colorado for the weekend!

My parents know about my situation. I am expecting multiple conversations about it and I am expecting them to suck. Such is life.

I'm also getting up earlier than I ever have for work in order to tailgate, because one of our biggest games is tomorrow. I'm crazy but I love this.

I wrote a thing. I'm also trying to plan out KH3 in my head as a massive fanfic. This is because I am a crazy person. So you know.

I'll catch up on 30 day memes later when I'm not exhausted and/or going crazy. So. Yes. Stuff.

GO AIR FORCE! SINK NAVY!
And yet here I am, suitcases still unpacked, posting in my  LJ. Kia's a moron~~~~~

So, the quick bites:

Leaving for London in 48 hours. Still totally not packed. WOOHOO :D:D:D;;;;;;
Still having particular problems with a particular RP. Nothing new there.
Where the hell did this Wash muse come from? Seriously, just outta the blue, BAM. I blame Serenity.
BEST. FOOTBALL. GAME. EVER. YESTERDAY. HO YES.
And the lovely fandom meme, because it is lulz and fun.

1. Has anybody ever noticed that all the big villains in this series are machines?
2. The ultimate latchkey kid, right here.
3. We're not unreasonable, I mean, no one's gonna eat your eyes.
4. NO, MY CAPS LOCK KEY IS NOT BROKEN. THIS IS HOW I SPEAK.
5. No, it's not lupus.
6. I'm pretty sure that name's missing a vowel somewhere - oh, wait, not in the dub it's not!
7. "Blow it up" is only the answer when "kick its ass" is not a viable option.
8. Plastic dinosaurs are win. Do not ever forget this.
9. For the number of times this guy loses his right arm, I sure hope he's a lefty.
10. I'm in this one for the sociopathic mercenary-for-hire. The rest of the characters are total Sues.
