Sales Post! Card Wallets

For those of you who are not aware, I have a metric flipton of old Pokemon cards. Right now, I'm taking commissions for and making wallets out of them - six cards per wallet.

They look like this! )

Information! )

The list of available cards is here.

NOTE: I will also create wallets with Yu-Gi-Oh, Doctor Who, and Magic cards. Lists for all three of these are pending.

Comment with which cards you want and I shall make you a wallet!

I have no clever puns for this line, though I wish I did.

Believe it or not, I'm still out here somewhere! Despite still having an anagrammed X name, I do exist! Nothing like a good existential crisis to remind you that you're still alive!

Now that that joke's gone on far too long and made me look far more desperate than I actually amm...hi! Yeah, it's been a ridiculously long time since I've updated this journal, and I blame the fact that updating here actually takes some amount of cohesive thought and effort. I haven't had a lot of that to spare lately. Most of it's going to work, where we're wrapping up two massive summer projects. Classes start again on Friday, which means teachers come back Thursday, which means all of our lives up in the tech department are about to get insanely busy. That's going to be interesting. Most of my waking hours have been going to that, and I'm probably going to do some working from home this weekend in order to get things done. Things should calm down again on the work front in...October, maybe...so that'll be nice.

The other thing that's eaten my life, at least for about a week, was the release of KH3D. If you're friends with me on Facebook, you saw a bit of my frustration; if you have me on Plurk, you got the full-on screaming fury. I was even swearing at things IRL, which surprised the hell out of my roommate. I don't usually get that profane about...anything, really. I won't give spoilers here (though I'd be happy to link the exceedingly spoilery plurk rants if anyone wants them), but as far as final thoughts go, I really did enjoy this game. It gave me quite a bit to think about in terms of character development; it had a battle system that I both enjoyed and hated by turns (I cannot tell you how many times I died while waiting for Cure to recharge); I spent way too much time naming and feeding and petting and generally loving upon my Dream Eaters and enjoying the hell out of that; and it played Devil Went Down to Georgia on my heartstrings, but this is Kingdom Hearts and that's a given at this point. There are still a few massive WHAT IS THIS EVEN scenes and plot points I need to watch again and discuss with someone, and I do think they need to rename the Xanatos Gambit the Xehanort Gambit, but overall it wasn't too terribly difficult to follow. (Though, really, I thought Storm of Swords had given me a pretty bad Everything You Know Is Wrong moment, and then I played 3D. Wow.) Overall, I give it an A and I will probably play through it again in very short order.

As for the usual IRL stuff, health is about the same as usual (imperfect but I'll live, way the hell better than December was), work is busy as mentioned but still much better than my last job, and apartment things are pretty chill. My mom actually came down last weekend for three days with me at Disneyland; of course, it had to be 95 degrees for those three days, so we were pretty much melting from heat the entire time. It was still a ton of fun - we have bizarre and hilarious ride photos down to an art now - and it was nice to have Mom down here for a change, even if avoiding political discussions is much the same as tango-ing around the elephant in the room and my (exceedingly sane by California standards) driving does terrify her. Still! Good times.

As far as writing and fandom activities go...yeah. I have a long list of fics to finish and an even longer list of edits to make on my NaNo fic in progress so I can continue working on it and hopefully finish it this November. (Synchro, you are a saint for having looked over all of that. Seriously.) RP drive has also been flagging a bit, but that's something else I need to sit down and parse out for a bit and today is just not that day. At some point, yes, but not now.

Finally, I am running a music blog and a Disneyland blog! If you have a tumblr, please follow my ridiculous stuff; if you have a tumblr or a plurk or a Twitter or if you're on Adagio (yes, tea, it's awesome), give me your username and let's be friends there too :Db

My poor, neglected journal

Eventually I'll actually post a sizable update here. I'll put up the snippets of fic I've been writing; I'll talk about the tiny family reunion and the past few cons I've been to and the movies I've seen recently; I might even give my thoughts on A Dance With Dragons, seeing as I've finally finished it.

Today - or at least the thirty minutes left of it - is not that day.

Remember when I used to actually write about my life on this thing?

Yeah, me neither.

Life is actually going okay at the moment. I'm trying to run last minute con prep errands, but that's par for the course given my inability to prepare for...anything, really. Flying home last weekend to surprise Mom for her birthday was a blast - she had absolutely no idea I was coming and she loved the hell out of it (though she did make it clear that she wants me to move back to Colorado and get married and have kids. It was a very interesting turn for that conversation to take).

She also wanted me to get tested for lyme disease on account of minor lingering symptoms from my medical litany of woe. I went into the clinic yesterday to get the test. When I told the doctor the theory and why I was getting tested, she started laughing. Pretty sure it's not lupus lyme disease.

Also, I managed to plow through Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter in a weekend. That is a very good but very interesting book. The movie is going to be ridiculous. I cannot wait.

In other news, [personal profile] lynxgriffin and I are going to be at AM2 Con in Anaheim this weekend! If you're in town, come visit us! Lynx will be selling all her lovely art - and those hand-painted fandom pony figurines - in the artist's alley, and I've entered a video into the AMV contest. On top of it all, AM2 is free to attend. Everyone should come. :Db

Finally, because I am trying to get back into the swing of writing, it's meme time!

Give me a character or a pairing and a song and I will write you a fic of some sort.

YouTube videos are probably your best bet unless you know I know the song, and I can't guarantee that it'll be 1) longer than a sentence or 2) done in a timely manner, but...yay writing!

Writing time!

I finally bit the bullet and got a new laptop and then returned it and got another new laptop because the first one wasn't working right, and now that I have Word on it, I want to get started writing again. So!

Give me a fandom/character(s) and a genre (comedy, drama, fluff, etc) and I will write a one-sentence drabble...or possibly something longer, if the mood strikes me.

WINTER IS COMING

Oh man my life what even |D

I had that followup interview on Tuesday and...haven't heard a thing. Okay! Waiting is something I can do.

I managed to read Game of Thrones in about three and a half days, and I'm still not entirely sure what on Earth I was reading that entire time. I haven't got it in me for an extensively spoilery discussion at the moment, but I am borrowing the next few books from [livejournal.com profile] orelleperedhil, so that should be all sorts of interesting.

...seriously what did I just read I don't even. Martin means business, man.

I went to Vegas for the first time on Wednesday! I went to go see the Air Force play in the Mountain West conference and to hang out with my parents. The game was one of the most infuriating games I've ever been to - seriously, I'd be willing to bet somebody had money on the game that they really shouldn't have (i.e. coaches, refs, somebody), the opposing team's fans booed our team as they came onto the court, and the refs were flat blind - so that was not good, but the rest of the visit was great. I managed to win ~$100 at craps and found a receipt for $140 in a change machine, so that was an unexpected but awesome windfall. Also, the food at the Paris is amazing. Cannot wait to go back in May.

On the job front, I got a call yesterday, an interview today, and I start working tomorrow in a receptionist position 30 minutes away (hnnnngh, but that's life) at a place that requires business professional dress. I need more than one suit jacket, I think. It's a temp gig and it holds down the fort while I look for more permanent things, so that is good!

And Wondercon is this weekend! I still need to figure out what I'm cosplaying as - I know I'll do Applejack and Linkara, but I haven't figured out a third yet.

So yeah. Life suddenly got busy. Who knew?

Secret Valentines!

You've heard of Secret Santas? These are Secret Valentines, because receiving packages is all sorts of fun and I figured everyone could use flowers or chocolate or coffee or tea or something nice along those lines.

So! If you'd like to participate, comment here - comments are screened - leave your name, mailing address, and what you like (a certain type of tea or coffee or chocolate, for example - give me some idea) and on Monday or Tuesday I will tell everyone who their secret Valentine is and you can send them what they'd like.

Basically, gift giving in February! Because we can!

Those of you seeing this post on LJ, I have no idea if comments will be screened, so if you want to participate, trundle on over to DW and comment there with an open ID.

HEY GUESS WHAT I STILL EXIST

I HAVEN'T LOST MY HEART TO THE DARKNESS AND LEFT MY BODY AND SOUL TO GO WANDERING AROUND AND JOINING A MURDEROUS GROUP INTENT ON OBTAINING THE UNIVERSE'S ULTIMATE POWER

-I mean

Extended Kingdom Hearts jokes about existence aside, I am still around, believe it or not. I have also been keeping up on people's posts, even though I am the epitome of comment fail.

As far as life goes, it's been pretty much the same. I'm still trying to figure out what the stomach issues I'm dealing with are (the gastroenterologist had a few ideas as to what it might be, so I'm working through those), and my pillow stopped working for me for some reason, so I've been going through a lot of semi-sleepless and achy nights trying out new ones to find one that works. Aside from that, nothing else is really different as far as work and social life goes.

This is why I don't update this journal too much, I think. My Plurk is enough of a litany of woe - I'm not sure I want to spread it elsewhere. |D

Other than that, [community profile] itsjustagamerp is going really well! If I ever need a laugh, I just go read a thread. You guys are all awesome. ♥

I will have a Secret Valentine (think Secret Santa) post up within a day or two - it was supposed to be tonight, but it's been a long day.

Finally, and most importantly!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY [livejournal.com profile] corrielle!

Have the most fantastic of days today! ♥

Shake It Off

We're officially two days into the new year, and I'm finally getting around to updating. It's been a while, huh. There's been a good reason for that - I've been ill for almost the entire month of December, and it's still going on. All the ugly details are on my plurk, but it's basically been my stomach disagreeing with me on a good number of counts. It's kind of amazing how many episodes of Phineas and Ferb you can get through when you're taking it easy on the couch for days on end. As it is, there are good days and bad days, so here's hoping things are on the up-and-up.

I know this is the time when we're supposed to look back at the past year and Reflect On Things, but I've never been the biggest fan of that, partially because my memory is ridiculously short and terrible and partially because I have a habit of basking in the good things as they happen but remembering the negative things well afterwards. There's been a pretty negative spin on my December for multiple reasons, and I don't want to go back and reminisce about the year through that lens, because while 2011 wasn't the nicest year, it didn't unequivocally suck either, and I'd rather not remember the entire year as though it did.

There was an image on plurk asking if we wanted to see the new year as a baby - easily influenced, helpless, and bossed around - or as a young warrior, eager to go forth, kick ass, and have awesome adventures. 2012 is a warrior year, guys. Let's make it one.

I actually did make resolutions for this year, though! They are as follows:

1. Finish my NaNo story, even if that doesn't happen until NaNo this year;
2. Go to at least one out of state convention (so not in CA);
3. Be more fiscally responsible (I don't have issues or anything, but I could stand to keep track of things a bit better).

So, [livejournal.com profile] iki_teru, [livejournal.com profile] synchroshatter, I plan on running spell check and trying (and likely failing...) to do a once-over of my NaNo story soon. Are you still up for beta duties?

And finally, given recent happenings that have happened at LiveJournal, I am now officially posting from Dreamwidth. I'll still cross-post entries to my LJ and I will still check my LJ flist, but I've officially made the jump. Friend me over here if you'd like. :Db (Though I do need a new mood theme for DW - anybody have any good ones?)

AFTER 26 DAYS OF GRUELING HARD WORK

A WINNER IS ME~

Mind you, this is after the validator added ~800 words to my count, but I still have 50k+ legitimate words to win that title. Winning.

So. Uh. Once I run spell check and try to catch any glaring continuity errors, who wants to beta? 8D

And this is only the first half of the story aaaaaaaa

2011-11-20 01:43 am

Oh, LJ, I do neglect you so.

NaNo Count: 43,302 words total. I am this close, guys, but only to word count - I get the feeling the story's going to go on for a while longer yet. I am perfectly okay with this. :|b

The only thing I really worry about - aside from random tonal shifts, unintentional repetition of words and phrases (which, I think, is inevitable when half your word count comes from frenzied word wars), and a lack of motivation once the month's over - is whether I'm falling into the same trap I ream out so many AU authors for: OOC characters. I know concessions have to be made for the differences in setting and how a given character would develop in a role differing from canon; the thing is, I think I might have overstepped my leeway and I'm not sure whether this is the case. I guess I'll know once I get a beta. Until then, onwards and upwards.

(Also, I have only just remembered why referring to anyone in this story as a "mysterious figure" is a bad idea. I see a good deal of find+replace in my future. Yep.)

Favorite line of the night:

She turned to face him, eyes shining; he’d never thought anyone could look so victorious while holding a sack of potatoes, but she’d just gleefully proven him wrong.

(Screw context. I just love this one.)

COVERED IN BEES

NaNo, day 13: 30,122 words total, 3,835 of which were written today.

I have realized several things over the course of writing this fic:

- 3/5 of the way through and I'm not even a quarter of the way through my outline. This thing is going to be long, because it requires a lot of setup for a solid payout and that setup is complicated and taking forever.

- I've managed to go this entire time without referring to the princess by name. I'm waiting for people to start making all sorts of nonsensical guesses once I start posting this. (This has happened because the fic is in 3rd person limited from Terra's POV and he thinks of her as "the princess" or "Your Majesty." Every once in a while, I do something that actually makes sense in context.)

- My fellow WriMos are a special kind of crazy and I absolutely love them all. Also, evidently it only takes six people to eat the entire eight-scoop sundae at the soda fountain.

- Throwaway lines lead to outline jumping. 8D;;; Turns out that the consequences of one character who is terrible at lying trying to lie to a character who has been lied to for a long time, hates being lied to, and can tell when the first character is lying can really mess up your story. I wrote a whole lot of unplanned anger and angst tonight, and I have no idea how I'm going to get back on outline. I will need to rearrange.

Eventually, writeups on other stuff going on in my life - like the Muppets premiere, or general social stuff - will happen. For now, I'm going to bed.

I AM A CRAZY PERSON 8D

NaNo, Day 6. 15,176 words total, 3,840 written today.

I went to my first write-in this morning, which is probably why I managed to get so much done - dual writing sessions today. Also, everyone at the write-in was awesome and I had a fantastic time. Very much looking forward to the next one. :D

...also, I am completely insane for writing this much holy flying hell. This is a personal daily record, and a personal word war record too - I broke 800 words in 15 minutes. Next stop: 900 in 15.

Yeah, it's been a long day. 8D Bed now.

Favorite lines of the night:

“Because I am frustrated all the time,” she finally replied, staring into the fire as though it could answer the question for her if only Terra knew how to read it like she did. “Because even though I’m supposed to be the princess, I’m nothing.”

(Screw context, I have drama. Also, I feel like I've been a bit heavy on the OMG CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT side, but again, I think that may be one for the editing table once I hit it. For now, onwards and upwards!)

Remember, Remember, and all those lovely catch phrases

Day 5 of NaNo: 11,336 words, which is only 330 words away from Monday's goal, and I'm pretty sure I would have eclipsed that by now if I'd done more than two word wars tonight. Still, I'm going to a write-in tomorrow in addition to doing my usual nightly session, so hopefully I can get a good chunk more done.

The best part is, I am really enjoying this - a lot more than I would be if I'd been doing it alone. The AIM chat, and actually doing this with people, is a fantastic motivator and just so much fun. I love you guys - you know that. ♥ As always, the chat name is oshinano and you're all welcome to join and chat and word war with people!

In other news, I'm no longer allowed to watch Air Force games, because recently, every time I watch a game, they do poorly, and every time I leave and check the score later, they win. Case in point: today's game against Army. I watched the first half, and we were down 14-0 (though the touchback at the end of the second quarter helped); I walked away at halftime, and we wound up winning 24-14. I don't get to watch anymore. XD

Also, evidently my roomies and I are now honorary KSU fans. Kristin was going to a show tonight, so we went to a sports bar nearby to have dinner. Turned out it was College Football Night and the place was absolutely packed - they were saying at least an hour's wait for a table. We headed upstairs, found a table that was being cleared off, and asked if we could sit there. The waitress asked if we were with Kansas State, then let us sit at the table anyway because Megan's coat was purple and that was good enough. (Purple's a KSU color.) We sat, we had great food, we pretended to be excited about the game, we socialized with other fans (or at least I did and completely bullshitted my way through the whole thing)...and then Phil, the party organizer, came up.

"Hi! I haven't seen you guys at our watching party before. Are you all KSU fans?"

For those of you who don't speak College Sports Football Fan, allow me to translate: "Prove your loyalty or get out of our booth."

I don't remember the last time we all BSed so hard, but eventually we placated Phil and he sat back down. We left the bar not long after that - it was time for Kristin's show, and none of us wanted to stick around when the KSU fans were all scoping out our table. I'm not sure we can ever go back, but we did have a really good time.

Favorite lines of the night:

She stopped, suddenly meeting his eyes, her gaze determined and questioning. “Tell me, do you think I’d make a good queen?”

That stopped Terra dead. There was a very clear right answer here, but something told him the princess didn’t want that answer – not if he didn’t mean it, at least – and he honestly wasn’t sure he did. It left him caught between a rock and a very hard place. “Uh,” he tried, eloquent as ever.

“Be honest with me,” she added, seeing his dilemma. “You won’t get in trouble for it, I promise.”

He sighed. There was still that pressure to say the right thing – he had a feeling that wouldn’t go away, no matter how much she reassured him – but it had lessened somewhat, and he was pretty sure she’d be able to tell if he wasn’t being completely honest with her. He’d been told in no uncertain terms that he Could Not Lie, and he wasn’t about to test the theory now. “I don’t know,” he finally admitted. “I don’t think I know you well enough to know what kind of ruler you’d be.”

She looked away, frowning sadly, and for an instant he was afraid he’d said the wrong thing, honesty be damned. “I was afraid you’d say something like that,” she said quietly, and he could hear the disheartenment in her voice. “I’m not sure anyone knows me very well anymore, and I’m not sure I know anyone either. I just-” she shook her head, that oft-worn frustration returning. “I get the feeling that everyone’s lying to me, and I don’t know how to get them to tell me the truth.”

(Yeah, it's a long section, but I'm finally getting into something resembling character development and I am just pleased as punch about that. Here's hoping it actually works out.)

Crazy person, right here

NaNo Count: 9321 words. I'm 679 words away from Sunday's goal. I am completely nuts. And I'm really proud of this, to be completely honest.

The AIM chat is helping a lot - it's been great for motivation and commiseration, and I tend to get a lot written during word wars, even if most of it is introspective padding that will need to be weed whacked out during the editing process. As it is, according to my stats, if I keep going at this rate I'll be done on the 21st. Considering I wanted to be completely finished before Thanksgiving, I figure that's a very good rate to keep going at.

I'll be out tomorrow night, so I'm writing during the late morning/early afternoon - it could be as early as 11, if anyone wants to join me in the chat. I'll be a bit more specific on Plurk when I start getting close to when I'm going to write, and of course the chat is always open even if I'm not there. Communal NaNo hangout is go!

Favorite line(s) of the night:

He wasn’t witty enough to play word games, not with the Councilmen, who tended to play for verbal blood.

(That's it, really. I don't think I was too terribly clever tonight. Productive, yes, but not clever.)

I might be getting used to this!

NaNo, Day 3.

6699 words.

I'm past tomorrow's goal, I've worked past the gaps in my outline (I think), and my word count is an orgy.

I'm tired, but it's been a good day. |Db

Turns out that AIM chat I'm running works really well for word wars, and that's where most of my count the past two days has come from. Anyone who's NaNo-ing or paper-ing or spectating is welcome to join - the name's oshinano, and I tend to run it sometime after 8:30ish at night on weekdays. Weekends, well, who knows.

So how's NaNo and/or life in general treating everyone?

Favorite line(s) of the night:

“The Councilmen…are in charge of affairs in the kingdom, right?” Without waiting for an answer, Ven continued on. “Braig is foreign policy, Even is economy and trade, and Arlene is…something. I can never remember what she does, aside from make life miserable.”

Alternatively:

For everyone who had to put up with him – with any of them – life was a series of very creative dodges and ducks and rolls and excuses not to go up that flight of stairs or into that room because you were pretty sure you’d seen one of them in there five minutes ago and you had things to do that didn’t involve getting sidetracked by them. At all. Ever.

(Second person perspective and "really" are my crutches and I have got to stop using them. Once NaNo is over. Yes.)

NaNoWriMo.

I'm at 4135 words.

I wrote 3385 of those tonight.

[livejournal.com profile] ghettopeach, [livejournal.com profile] orelle_peredhil, whoever else is local to me: we should meet up and write and have shenanigans. I want to get a whole lot written this weekend, so. Yes. Good times. I know an awesome froyo place around here.

I'm Kiaxet on the NaNo website. Friend me.

And I still need to 1. sleep off this cold and 2. go to work tomorrow, so I am going to bed. Further bulletins - about Halloween, about [livejournal.com profile] universejuice's visit, about everything - as events and time warrant.

Favorite lines of the night:

There was something wild, poetic, and utterly stupid about fighting in the rain. He’d heard people talk about stormy battles as though they were some great romantic thing, like the lightening crackling across the sky and the thunder rolling all around was some great majestic wonder and that it made the battle that much better. In truth, rainy fighting was wet and cold and completely miserable. If Terra summoned his armor, his visibility would be all but shot and he’d be heavier, making it that much more difficult to move over the soggy ground, so for now, he was without that extra layer of protection. The lightening arcing across the sky only made him even more aware of the fact that his Keyblade was long and made of metal and that he was inordinately fond of the overhead strike, which left it pointing up at the sky – if only for a split second – more often than not. The thunder was distracting every time it boomed and made listening for his opponent, which blended well into the high grasses and overcast gloom, that much more difficult. The rain was cold and made his clothes chafe and his weapon slippery, and it was only by the grace of God and a good pair of gauntlets that it hadn’t gone flying out of his grasp already. In short, no matter how much poets and swooning girls seemed to love it, fighting in the rain sucked.

Hello and Goodbye, Colorado

Five days in Colorado was exactly the vacation I needed. I just need to remember next time that I need to drink a lot more - because dehydration headaches suck - and I can't drink pretty much anything - which sucks when Mom's buying and asking if I want a margarita because they're really great here and here, try hers and see if I like it. Honestly, I know my mom is happy to have me around whenever I come home, and I think she likes having someone who'll go out for fruity drinks and conversation. She likes having mother-daughter time.

In all honesty, it was really nice to have someone else make the decisions and the schedule and just follow along - a break from being a responsible adult, as it were. I put a ton of pressure on myself with to-do lists and self-imposed deadlines and all of that, and it was nice to get to just put all that on hold for an extended weekend and hang out with my parents. My younger brother is at college, my older brother came by for an afternoon, and I didn't get to see my sister-in-law or niece, but there's a flipton of drama surrounding that that I'd rather not get into right now. |D Either which way, I did love seeing my family. The football game was fun to go to even if it ended horribly (which is what happens when all of your starting defensive line is sidelined with injuries - the BSU game at the end of this week is going to be painful), shopping with mom was actually a lot more fun than most of my recent shopping trips have been, Sequence is a fun game if a bit slow with only two players, the new house is beautiful, and...yeah. Hell yes Colorado. :Db I do regret getting the donut burger, though. Remind me to post pictures of that.

The only thing I'm worried about is Finn. Since my parents moved into the new house, he's gone pretty much crazy: he's ripped up his kennel when they put him in it when they leave (whereas Mac just curls up in his and naps until they get home), he whines like mad, he's losing weight - he's skinny even for a greyhound, which is worrying - and he just generally Does Not Look Good. Mom's bringing him in to the vet's and, if that doesn't work, possibly a dog whisperer, because he never used to do any of this stuff, and if we give him up or, God forbid, put him down - which is a very sad option if he continues on being this destructively miserable and we can't find the reason and calm him down - then Mac will go ballistic without him around. The dog situation at home is not good, but I'm really hoping it'll turn out for the better.

A little closer to the west coast, my bosses are out of the office all week (Hawaiian vacation, lucky them), so I'm on my own and keeping busy with whatever project updates come up. This Friday, I head to Disneyland for the Halloween party with [livejournal.com profile] amorsinseramada, [livejournal.com profile] lynxgriffin, and [livejournal.com profile] universejuice, and sticking around on Saturday as well. Costumes aren't quite finished yet, but those are priorities for the next few nights. It's just a bit of cutting and hemming (and praying shoes come in on time), so it shouldn't be too bad. I hope.

On the fandom works front, [livejournal.com profile] secondcityrpg is almost over and Rarity has been accepted at [livejournal.com profile] itsjustagamerpg - I just need to join the comms and get going. Tron fic is on hold until I get to rewatch Legacy - maybe sometime next week - and while I haven't done much for my NaNo outline, I have been kicking around ideas for it, so hopefully that'll start coming together soon. Again, next week's priority.

Who all's doing NaNo this year, by the way? I'd love to know - something tells me I'll need people to lean on come November. |D

I. Really fail at this, huh. |D I used to get upset that my flist would disappear to Plurk, and then I got one, and...well. Kettle called the other day, said my name was now Pot, and told me I was looking a little black there.

Life is, per usual, wild. I'm working forty hours and still herding cats to various degrees, and it wears me out, but it's still all very much good. The project that's been driving me absolutely wild is done, so that's definitely a relief.

Last Sunday - only a week ago, but it feels like forever - I headed up to [livejournal.com profile] orelle_peredhil's wedding. First of all, congrats Orelle! You know you are amazing and he is amazing and you two are amazing together ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Shopping for the bachelorette party was...interesting, the bachelorette party was hilarious and slightly wild by turns, but the wedding was fantastic and beautiful. (The guy setting off fireworks in the field behind the gardens, unintentional as it was, added to that effect.) It was also fantastic seeing people I hadn't seen in a while, especially those who live way far away from me (multiple hours' drive time, basically). There were large amounts of dancing and cake and inside jokes and the reception got a live Rickroll, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] jedizero and Jeff (oh, Jeff), who were in turn taking it over from a guest who couldn't be there on account of being in Europe, messing with particle colliders. What this basically sums up to is, congratulations to the bride and groom, and our friends are awesome.

Jumping from one huge event to another, somewhat smaller one, I went to the Ventura Highland Games yesterday with Kristin and another friend. The goal of finding an attractive guy in a kilt went pretty much unfulfilled, as most of the guys in kilts were over 40 or under 18, which is not exactly in our age group. At all. We did, however, get to watch a corgi herd sheep - which is one of the most adorable things I've seen in a very long while - and watch large men in kilts throw logs - the caber toss, which was pretty damn awesome. There was also haggis, and contrary to popular belief, haggis is quite good. The event for the end of the day - folk dancing - wound up being something for the much-older-than-us crowd, so we got in the car and went to Borderline for line dancing instead. I am sunburned and still tired and will likely bypass the Highland Games in favor of the Ren Faire next year, but it was still a ton of fun and well worth doing.

As for every other side project I'm working on - fic, videos, RP, everything - I am in the middle of pretty complete burnout. The upside is, I think I may have figured out why, and it stems from my propensity for to-do lists. I have a list of smaller things to do almost every day, I have a larger monthly one for longer projects (which I am notoriously bad at), and I have an ongoing list of stuff I want to do in general (like work out, start eating healthier, all that fun stuff). Between lists of Things That Need Accomplishing, and that nagging feeling of unproductivity and self-induced guilt when, inevitably, not everything gets done, I think I've forgotten how to just take a day off and relax. Instead of finishing a task and going, "Yay! I am accomplished!" I finish something and go, "Yay! That's done! Now go do all the other things." It's all an unending stream of Things I Have To Do, which eventually makes me not want to do anything at all. I work, I come home, I work out, I take care of all the RL tasks that need to happen, and then I completely waste the rest of the night because I don't want to work on anything else - no video, no writing, no RP, no nothing. It's become "I have to do this" instead of "I want to do this," and when it comes to creative fannish pursuits, that's just stupid and borderline unhealthy.

Sleeping eight hours a night, far-fetched as the idea is, would also help.

So yeah, I pretty much need a day or two to just check the hell out. I'm heading to Colorado on Wednesday, so hopefully that'll be my chance, at least to an extent. For now, I need to go relax somewhere. We'll see how that goes.
