Why the need to calm down?
I got an email from Housing today.
Dear [My Name],
We regret to inform you that you have been placed on the housing waitlist for the Fall 2008 semester. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of students requesting to live on campus, we are unable to accommodate every student’s request. The Housing Office does everything we can to place as many people as possible and not being able to place everyone who requests on campus housing is one the most difficult challenges we face. While the majority of students that submitted fall contracts were placed on campus, 242 students are currently on the fall housing wait list.
I expect the first question you have is “what are my chances of getting housing?” This is a difficult question to answer with certainty, but I can say that typically, there are many cancellations throughout the summer months and we are able to offer housing to many, if not most, students who start out on the waitlist. Last year we were able to place almost every student who filled out the waitlist prioritization form and opted to stay on the waitlist.
At this point, I advise you take the following steps to increase your chances of obtaining housing:
And that was when they told me to fill out the PLEASE LET ME HAVE HOUSING NEXT YEAR PLEASE form and submit it, which I did. But seriously, I HAVE NO CAR. LIVING OFF CAMPUS IS SLIGHTLY PROBLEMATIC IF I LACK TRANSPORTATION.
People who've Done This Shit Before tell me that the lack of car will likely mean I'll get a spot on campus, but I want my roomie to stay with me, and that's a big part of what's worrying me. Being forced off-campus is going to suck for her (especially since she does indeed have a car), and I don't want to end up with Hell Roommate my Junior year.
