Okay. First. Idol results.

THE WINNER OF AMERICAN IDOL IS DAVID COOK!

Both my mom and I were seriously expecting Archuleta to win. He did indeed perform well last night, and we thought the teenybopper vote would get him through.

And then Simon apologized to Cook for being harsh and "almost rude" to him last night and that he "didn't deserve it." For all intents and purposes, he was saving face. Now why would he be doing that...?

And then we got to the DRUMROLL, PLEASE part of the evening.

"And the winner of American Idol is..."

Cue thirty-second pause.

"David..."

Well we knew that.

"...COOK!"

Well I whooped and hollered like an idiot. I seriously wasn't expecting my mom to fansquee louder than I did, but...well, surprises every day, huh.

And when Ryan announced he'd won, Cook started crying right there onstage. It was that sort of hand-over-the-face, grateful as anything crying, and my heart just went right out to him. I mean, this is the first time I've ever really cared who won Idol, and I'm caring about David a lot more as a person than as just an Idol contestant. He's just such a sweetheart. Plus, in all seven seasons, I don't think anybody else has ever consistently applauded his accompanists or been so gracious as he has. Win, David. ♥

And I'm totally seeing him in concert first chance I get. XDb

And today's work shift.

Today was flat crazy.

You'd think yellow section (four two-tops and four four-tops) would be pretty zen, right? Nope, we were really busy today. It's graduation season, so everybody and their mom (quite literally) is in town, and lots of people like texmex. Who'd'a thunk?

And I kept getting completely turned around so far as table layout went. I rang in table 11 as table 14 and vice versa, and I rang in 13 as 12. The poor food runners were so damn confused, but at least that was as epic as my fail got.

I took my first five-top at OtB today - a bunch of people from Ultimate Electronics out to lunch. The manager of the store was one of the people, and he told me if I "ever got tired of working here," then he'd hire me at his store.

...that's the third time I've been offered a job while waitressing. That's actually pretty flattering. ^^;

So after a pretty good lunch shift, I'm cut (restaurant slang for "no more tables for you; do your sidework and head on out") and, after finishing my sidework (with the exception of rolling epic amounts of silverware, holy shiz), I'm cleaning and straightening tables in my section when the hostess comes up to me. "We're getting a ten-top. Do you want to take it?"

HolydearGodanentiretentop "...Sure!"

"Don't worry, they're only coming for appetizers and drinks."

It ended up being six moms and three kids (a nine-top after all) fresh from kindergarten graduation. The table ended up with eight margaritas (two moms doubled up), five of which were RIDICULOUSLY HUGE REALLY GOOD BOOZE, one Mexican Mojito, and three kid-sized strawberry lemonades. Once you suggest strawberry lemonade to a kid, everybody wants one. They're just so cute. :3

And a twenty-dollar tip on a sixty-eight dollar tab ain't too shabby either. X3b

I ended up staying nearly two hours after I was technically cut, rolling silverware, taking this nine-top, and helping out the only two servers left on (who ended up having about seven tables apiece at one point since we had a pop after everyone else was cut). When I went to check out, my manager asked me if my feet hurt, since I'd been kicking ass all afternoon.

I walked out with 44 dollars in tips - about $11/hr.

Did I mention I love this job?
