It was only when Aqua had to go light a lamp in order to continue her reading that it dawned on her how thoroughly she'd lost track of time. Even then, it took her another few pages to realize that she hadn't heard a thing from Terra or Ven in quite a while. Hadn't they gone out to train earlier this afternoon? And now the sun was down...

She closed her book. Obviously there was only one thing to do.

She found them a few minutes later in their usual spot. It always amazed her how clear it was up here and just how beautiful the stars could be. Terra and Ven, however, were taking advantage of the location in a completely different way: napping in the cool night air. Terra was sitting on the ground, back leaning against one of the old stone walls; Ven had fallen asleep with his head in his fellow apprentice's lap, Terra's wooden keyblade next to him and the older boy's hand resting on his shoulder. It looked like they'd tired themselves out sparring. She couldn't help but shake her head, hiding her smile and soft laughter behind her hand.

Evidently that was enough to stir Terra, as he shook his head slowly and opened his eyes. He caught sight of her and shared her smile, then silently nodded towards Ven, the message clear: don't wake him. Ven was usually a very light sleeper; he must have been exhausted, if she'd woken Terra but not him.

She nodded in agreement, then raised her eyebrows when he patted the ground on his other side, inviting her to join them. On the one hand, she should probably go bring them a blanket if they were going to stay out here. On the other, it was a very nice night.

She crossed the short distance between them and slid down next to them, jerking a bit as her bare back touched cold stone. She jumped again, this time in surprise, as a strong arm wrapped around her shoulders - evidently Terra had noticed. The smile returned to her face and she relaxed, contentedly watching the night sky and listening to his breathing slowly even out. Only after she was certain he was once again sleeping did she settle against him, gently resting her head on his broad shoulder. She was usually the one to take care of them; they all knew it, even if the boys would never admit to it. Every once in a while, though, and especially on nights like this, it was nice to have someone to lean on.

She drifted contentedly off to sleep as the stars twinkled overhead.
