I got my first dose of Paixao today. tafkae invited me into first the OOC chat, then the Christmas Crack chat.

It was...interesting, to say the least.

I found Rosette to be a bit out of character in the Christmas chat, actually. I think part of that was because she was just in a really weird situation (somebody started eating a human leg WTF), but the other part was because of me. I'm trying something I've never done before in a chat with nine other people. Also, I find that no matter what character I play (thinking back into high school theater days), they all end up with some piece of me in them. I don't know if every actor does that, or if it's just my inability to get completely out of my own skin.

And now I'm arguing the food chain with a living plant (also the guy who's eating the human leg WTF).

I think I should go to bed now.

Bwahahaha, awesome.

And yeah, that's normal. It's easier to RP something if their character has an aspect of themself you can relate to. Even if it's really a really tiny aspect.

Every chaacter you write (for long enough) or play or act as the voice for or whatever will have some aspect of yourself buried in her (or him). Professional actors will tell you the secret isn't getting out of your skin, it's getting deep enough into it that you can change some of the surface aspects like mannerisms and sense of humor and habits and principles, yet still be recognizably "human" (that applies to nonhuman characters too--otherworldly beings whose psyches wouldn't be mistaken for human after a change of body are few and far between). Once you get to the point where you realize that in an alternate world you, personally, could have been that person, you can start understanding the character at a level deeper than stimulus-response (i.e. if she found herself in a barfight with a penguin and a giant hamster, what would she do, etc.).
