OMG You *SO* have to work at Tech Central. 'Cause I work there. And I like it very much. You don't have to be a techie if you're just a student worker for tech central (if they hire you for something else like tech rescue, then that's a different story.)
But basically, what I do while I'm there? Answer phones. Sometimes you only get like...five calls in a day. And most phone calls involve saying to your callers, "No, we don't sell computers/software/computer stuff in the store, but you can check out our website to see what products we sell online. Yes, you get discounts on everything. Here's the web address." Or, "Oh, I see you're having a computer problem. I'll transfer you to one of my co-workers here who can help you with that." And then when people come in, you make sure to say "hi" and see what they need. If they want to buy Windows XP or Microsoft Office (literally the ONLY things we sell on hand in the store), you take care of that. Oh, and you occasionally check on the computer lab to make sure that there's no trash and that the chairs are all pushed in. You do that like... twice a day. :p
So,to summarize: Unless they're hiring you specifically as a techie, then you'll just be a student worker. And you'll do what I do. I love my job. It may be boring, but you can do homework while you're there. It's basically like a paid study hall, (only me=art major =can't study at work) But yes. I recommend. ^^
