Because that's what I got at work today.
That's right. $3,000 in donations. $3, 225 if you want to be exact.
And that was just in four pledges.
That's the first time I've ever seen my boss do a full-out happy dance.
So we were calling current students' parents tonight. I ended up calling the mother of one of the girls in my rush group. My conversation with the girl later was a tad bizarre. ("Hey, I think I called your mom tonight!" "Yeah, she called me and told me you called her." "...Well this is weird...")
She was wearing the coolest freaking skirt EVER OMG OMG OMG I WANT.
And then the girl sitting two seats down from me called my mom. When I heard, "Hi, Mrs. (My Last Name)," I nearly fell out of my seat. (I'm not kidding. I really nearly did.) I was right in the middle of taking information for a pledge, too. It was nuts.
So of course, when I went on my break, I called the house phone and went through my work spiel. My mom laughed.
...Knowing my luck, I'll probably be the one calling her next time. Not like I'll get a donation or anything.
But that first pledge was crazy. It was our first night calling parents, so I have an unfamiliar script and event list in front of me. I made my way through the first call (the parents were in Georgia), screwing up and bumbling along horribly, and I finally manage to spit out my first ask: "So, can I put you down for $1000 tonight?"
He says, "Sure."
...I took about two milliseconds to go OMGWTFBBQVCR. (It took about that long to switch gears from "Second Ask" to "Credit Card Info.") Nobody, and I mean nobody, ever says yes to $1000 just like that.
And he put it on a credit card (the preferred method because the university can get it and put it to use the next day).
And his workplace matches donations (making it $2000).
This is when my boss hugged me and started doing the happy dance. Man, she rocks. My boss = much win.
So that was great. And then we went to rush.
I've got my top 3 sororities picked out. The hard part's gonna be deciding which one I want to get into (provided any of them will accept me). I'm thinking Delta Gamma, Tri-Delta, and Kappa Kappa Gamma. I just had so much fun in each of those, and I'd love to go back. ^^
Here's hoping they liked me back!
