Somebody out there had better know the Spectrum Song. C'mon, guys, it's Disney.
SO. HOW ABOUT THAT WORLD OF COLOR.
Recorded and uploaded specifically for
princealia, since I kind of figured she'd be into the whole Aladdin thing. Because. You know.
First:

OMG would you look at all that color. That color is fantastic. The first few minutes of the show were this - experiments with fountains and colored lights; basically a big old HEY LOOK WHAT WE CAN DO ISN'T THIS NEAT? 8D

Hell yeah it is.
Then we got to the part that everyone's been waiting for. Ladies and gentlemen:

THE BACKSIDE OF WATER!
With Ariel on it. Yes, really. Taking pictures of something being projected on water is more difficult than you'd think.
Most of the show was this - projecting scenes from different movies on water, with accompanying fountain movements/colored lights/songs and sound clips. I know my saying it like that doesn't make it sound like much, but it was impressive enough for me to put my camera away and enjoy the show...mostly with my jaw hanging open in shock, because holy cow this show was absolutely incredible.
I wasn't surprised to see a whole bunch of princess and true love stuff, because hey, it's Disney. I was pretty pleased when all Pixar's stuff got in there - Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Wall-E, Finding Nemo, and even a bit of Up. I was surprised when they showed The Old Mill -
lynxgriffin actually recognized it before me and had to tell me what it was before I remembered. That was impressive. I about had a conniption fit of squee when they included Hellfire, if only for a little bit. There was a good deal of Fantasia and Fantasia 2000, including Chernabog and the Firebird. If you've never seen water set itself on fire before, this show is definitely a good place to do it.
I cried when they did the stampede scene from the Lion King. Yes, all the way through. With "Long live the king" echoing around the arena. Just. Cried.
I find it amazing that a show can keep me enraptured for thirty minutes, make me cry in the middle, and still bring me out the end feeling like that was the best thing I've ever seen omg wow - which it may well have been. I'm still trying to think of a counterpoint.
I'm only really disappointed in two little bits. One, there was a lack of Hercules. Lynx tells me there's a bit of it in a montage that I somehow missed, but I'd still like to see more of it, especially in a production like this. Two, there was absolutely zero Nightmare Before Christmas, which, to me, is wasted potential. They included their black sheep (Hunchback) and less popular movies (Tarzan) and even put in the latest films (Up, Princess and the Frog), but they left out one of their cult classic and highly successful/merchandisable films? Barring copyright/trademark issues, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
But then again, it's kind of like complaining that your chocolate cake isn't chocolatey enough. It does not change the fact that you still have chocolate cake, and a pretty darn good one at that.
The verdict: A++, am definitely going again as soon as I can swing it. That may not be for a few weeks, but nonetheless I will see that show again - hopefully from the front next time. Here's hoping for fastpasses!

There's actually much cooler stuff than this in the show - I just decided after the first few minutes that I didn't want to watch it through my camera screen, so I turned it off. Still, definitely go. :Db

The lack of Hercules surprises me because the characters were so colorful in the movie, and "Zero to Hero" would be a fun song. The Nightmare Before Christmas... maybe it's too dark to be seen clearly for the show?

Yeah, I was surprised they didn't do more with movies that had such awesome songs. And as far as TNBC goes color-wise...Christmastown. |Db
