COMIC CON WAS HUUUUUUUUGE

Everything else goes behind a cut because it got image heavy. )

In conclusion:

At Comic Con, even the walls troll you. The end.
I figure pony recaps will happen when I haven't posted for a few days and some relatively big stuff has gone down. Basically, this amounts to LOTS AND LOTS OF PONIES because I am a lazy bum.

To start, my birthday was Tuesday, and I got a group of sixteen people together for dinner at Gyu-Kaku. I don't know if anyone's ever tried to fit sixteen people in a relatively small restaurant, but it's kind of surprising just how big a group that is in a restaurant of that size. It was also a whole lot of How Do You Know Katie - I had my roomies, friends from cons, house of fandom, and Pepperdine friends there. It was a ton of people and a ton of fun, and you all spoil me, seriously. ♥ I started opening presents and just:

Because seriously. I am spoiled. And I love you all.

Thursday night (or technically Friday morning) was the Pirates midnight showing at El Capitan, so of course I went with a group of friends. :Db It was a fun movie! It certainly didn't outdo the first one, but it felt much more like we were getting back to the look and feel of the first, including having Jack actually act like Jack, which is a nice change. Plot was a tad simple, I wanted a bit more from the MacGuffin Army, but the action was fun and the dialogue was witty and damn was the missionary good looking.

Basically, well worth seeing and I would recommend it, though I don't think the 3D is necessary.

I also managed to walk out of that showing with eight new pins, only four of which I paid for. Free gifts are awesome.

Of course, I was utterly sleep deprived for all of Friday, but that's okay! I can function on four hours of sleep. Life is good.

Finally, I'm having a tough time finding a gif to express just how dumb I think the whole nonpocalypse thing today was. I'm tempted to go with this one:

Or potentially this:

But in the end, I think this one's the winner:

Can't wait to do this all again in 2012. 8Db
SATURDAY:

Saturday we went to a house party that Kristin and Megan's roommate was putting on. It was actually fun! Their coworker, who, swear to goodness, is named Kermit, is actually not a bad bartender (though the energy-drink-based drink he mixed on request was soooooo bad oh man). He's not the type of guy I'd like to geek with for too long, since he is Highly Opinionated and Always Right - it's the combination that's the killer, really - but there were about ten other people there to socialize with as well, and good company all around, and pizza, and Rock Band. I had no idea they had Pat Benatar's "We Belong" in Rock Band, but they do! There was a severe and woeful lack of Offspring and Journey, though. Also, songs that cater to vocalists over instruments were termed the "wine coolers of Rock Band." I'm a vocalist, but I might have to use that any because it is hilarious.

SUNDAY:

Disneyland! Disneyland Disneyland Disneyland! The rides were all sorts of fun, I got a shiny six-person pass simply for being polite (and likely for having my HAPPY BIRTHDAY button in plain view, but politeness helps too), I walked around for a good chunk of the night with a lightcycle painted on my face thanks to ElecTRONica, I managed to get a WDI Tiki Room pin (which is a rare thing, so I'm pleased), and we found out that they will be releasing a KH pin in the park in late June. What is this I don't even. You'd better believe I'm either camping out for that sucker or sending a proxy to do just that, because I want that badly especially in multiples. Trading is good 8D. Basically, I love this park, I love my roomies, and I love [livejournal.com profile] lynxgriffin - awesome Disneyland party is awesome. 8Db

TODAY:

So I walked into work exhausted. That was mistake number one. 8D

My task for this week, and basically until it gets done, is to put the audio into demo videos for a project that we have been working on literally since I started temping at my job in January. It's been a long time coming. The previous demo videos for this project have been easy - they came with one set of audio cut in all the right places, and all we had to do was input our audio in the right spots and remove the old stuff. Not so much this time around.

The new videos are timed too quickly for the audio, and I'd be up a creek without a paddle on that front if Camtasia didn't have a freeze-frame effect that lets me extend one frame as a still image. The script that tells me what audio goes at what time on the video is useless, since I had to extend frames in the video right off the bat and that throws everything out of whack. On top of that, I thought it'd be a good idea to cut all the audio at once instead of leaving it in one strip and cutting it as needed. I keep having to move audio further out to make room for all the wonky timing in the video, and Camtasia's inability to move multiple audio clips at once means I have to start at the end and move every one individually every time I need to lengthen the video.

I spent all day working on this video and have about five minutes of video to show for it. The video is ten minutes long. It is one of three videos for this module. There are ten modules.

This'll be fun. 8Db

Also, I have not forgotten about one-sentence fics and mini FSTs! I shall get to them eventually, promise. You can also still request one if you want one - I will get around to them. :Db
It's late, I'm bushed, and I've spent the entire day completely uninspired, even for tags. Wanna help me out and get fic or music in the process? Here's how:

1. Comment on this entry with a character or pairing and a genre of fanfiction (fluff, humor, smut, angst, etc.) and I will write you a one-sentence fic for it.

2. Comment with the name of a character, pairing, etc., in one of my fandoms/fandom we share. I'll post you an "instant" mini-fanmix: a cover and 3-5 songs that remind me of that character/pairing/show/etc. I'll upload the songs and everything!

Specify which prompt you want, or if you want both. I am fine with multiple characters, multiple prompts, multiple genres in prompt 1, crossovers...I just need to get writing again. Hopefully this will transfer into other things and I can finish 1) bitty!Terra drabbles; 2) KH/Tron: Legacy; or 3) BBS/MLP fic. Or the KH/Discworld drabbles, though those aren't as outstanding as these three.

Why is my writing list so long aaaaaaaa
THIS THREAD. THIS THREAD THIS THREAD THIS THREAD. I have not had Jaffa Cakes or Ben's Cookies in years and I have a craving something awful. Do any of my UK friends want to hook me up? I'll pay for cookies and shipping and everything and I'll send you something from California or LA or Disneyland or whatever, just...Ben's Cookies ;A;

That bit of withdrawal was about three years overdue, I think. |D In the meantime, I'm stalking that thread and sniping it sometime on the 24th.

As a reminder, my threads for [livejournal.com profile] helpthesouth are here and here. Y'all know what to do. :Db

In other news, Art of the Dress is getting rewritten. After everything we've done at work? Yeah, it's happening. I might even sing it if I get fed up enough. One line that's not changing, however: "Deadline looms/Don't you know the client's always right?"

Speaking of fandom and derpery, I'm debating finding a land comm or a 20in20 challenge to join. I know about the Sailor Moon and Avatar ones, but I'm not really in either of those fandoms. Is there a KH one kicking around somewhere, or a general 20in20? I have exactly zero idea, so. \O_o/

Eventually I will finish one of my writing projects. Eventually.

I'm actually dead serious about the cookie thing, guys. Do want.

Yep. WonderCon. :Db

Highlights include:
- Nathan Fillion calling in the Green Lantern: Emerald Knights panel
- Nathan Fillion taking Hal Jordan back from Ryan Reynolds
- BRONIES
- IC shenanigans
- MAIN STREET ELECTRONICAL PARADE
- The Count +9999 damage
- The local tea garden
- Neil Gaiman is such a troll
- Shenanigans with Ryune
- Getting hit on by someone much older than me...multiple times
- "I thought you'd known each other for years!" "Nah, I only met her an hour ago."

I'm sure there are more, but I'm bushed right now and will try to do a full writeup at a later date. For now, the public photo album is here, the more detailed one is on Facebook, and videos will be uploaded later. For those who do want Doctor Who clips, I do have them, but they're not going on YouTube. Come to me individually for those. |Db

In other news: Tron: Legacy remix album is here courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] uk_not_ok and the Amazon.com bonus track Sea of Simulation is here courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] rebmakash. Thanks to both of them for some awesome music. :Db

On the RP front, I need to figure out what the deal is with Linkara, talk with Lyra about doing stuff with Eb and Rosette, get caught up for Rarity, and try to convince myself that picking up Jason Stackhouse is a bad idea, no really, it is, and if I can't do that, then come up with a journal name for him. Life as usual, really.

I blame Erica. For everything.

There's this princess generator floating around... )

In other news, I'm in Colorado until Sunday, hanging out with the family and generally being a derp. Anybody want souvenirs?
I really hate being sick. Just. Ugh. When I'm too lightheaded to write or even tag, it's not a good time to come into work. Of course, that's exactly where I am, waiting for the orange juice and whatnot to kick in so I can feel a bit less like walking death.

But that's really not the point of this entry (though I do miss tagging already - this had to happen in the middle of two plots and one hysterical thread, didn't it :/).

I've started poking around in the TGWTG site to see what all it offers. I already watch Critic, Linkara (um, duh |D), Chick, Bum, a bit of Spoony, and JO. I'm wondering who else has good stuff on there. Of course, by "good stuff" I mean "things Kia would like watching." I've discovered I'm not a fan of Phelous' stuff, I have to be in the right mood for Masterpiece Fanfic Theater, and Todd in the Shadows is hilarious, if only because watching him get so ridiculously pretentiously worked up over pop music is amusing. He kind of reminds me of Devon, to be honest.

So. Who else on that website is good to watch?

In other news, they've re-lit the pilot light in our heater, so hopefully we'll have hot water again for the first time in two days, and maintenance is supposed to come in and fix the two leaks we found in our ceiling during those torrential rains on Sunday. I now subscribe to the theory that Derpy was in charge of our Winter Wrap Up, because I can find no other explanation for all this.
That title is yet another favorite from the drop-down menu of past titles because I am yet again lost for titles because I have YET AGAIN failed to post in this journal for...two weeks, I think.

Hi guys. :Db

A flipton of stuff has happened in that time, so I'll probably be brief and have short paragraphs and bullet points, because why not.

For starters, I'm going to WonderCon on April 1st up in San Francisco, so if you're up there, I'd be more than happy to meet you there and have awesome times. :Db

I'm officially being hired full-time to my job on March 28th. I've got Things To Do Before Then, but that list is getting smaller and I'm actually really excited for this. Good times? I think so.

Work got me a bonus. I am now the proud owner of a Barbados Brighton handbag - or at least, I will be once my order comes in. I absolutely love this bag and I am stoked and a half to finally own one.

Gallifrey was two weekends ago! I love Gally so bloody much. It was amazing. My little came all weekend and [livejournal.com profile] uk_not_ok joined us for Saturday and Sunday. I broke a record for ribbons, got ogled multiple times (hello, midriff top at convention), dressed as a pirate and dealt poker for the Friday night Rum Party - which ended in a Who Can Stick What Down Kia's Bust contest, which was interesting - and then proceeded to use my winnings to buy Captain Jack Harkness. Yes, that's correct. I also met a Spish! Spish was awesome! :Db Saturday was wandering, a hilarious masquerade, running out in pouring rain to get dinner at Denny's, watching Tony Lee in top form at several panels, fantastic stories in the Fans Behaving Badly panel, dancing by the TARDIS - now a Gallifrey tradition, and a whole lot of IC I Never. Best conversation of the night had to be between Dean Winchester and DEATH. Way too much fun there. Sunday was an attempt to stay coherent after Saturday night's shenanigans, including the charity auction, in which I got a Mirrormask poster for [livejournal.com profile] ghettopeach and filled in as a temporary Vanna White (at which point one of the people in the audience tried to bid on me...okay then). I made a few new Twitter friends, said goodbye and see you next year and why don't we hang out more often to quite a few people. My goal this year was not to have any pocket watch incidents and not to be a complete rabid fangirl - oh, and to have fun - and I think I succeeded admirably in all aspects.

All Gally pictures and videos are here - let me know if you have any questions or want any explanations. My personal favorite is the one in which Tony Lee has AIDS. Cute, fluffy AIDS.

I have a list of about four people to call tomorrow and assorted other things to do, but aside from that life's mostly been quiet. I particularly like that.

In fandom news, I have a list of in-progress projects for which I rather want to kick my brain. I have this terrible problem with starting things and petering out, so we'll see how things go. The list, for my sanity and your curiosity, is as follows:

Yes, these are all KH fics. Go, self. )

And, as promised, the first chapter of the MLP/BBS crossover. Because I'm a gigantic derp. Right. Whyisthissocuteeeeeeeee~

Okay, we're ponies. How is that better? )

Basically, Kia is a giant derp who does nerdy, nerdy things. Business as usual. Love you all. ♥
